Hello friends, I am approaching week 34, so there is not that much longer before the new little one arrives! Already he is showing impatience to be born and I waddle around with my belly low to the ground like a duck and lecture him on the importance of growing a little more before we meet. The parents who live far away ask for pregnancy pictures all the time but I prefer to turn my camera on the ones that are already here. They laugh and giggle and run away from the camera. It is hard to capture their smiles between the silly faces and mischief.
We are enjoying this season now with all we've got. It is difficult to stay ahead, as my shop sales pick up and the baby weighs me down. But the children are full of enthusiasm and we plan our projects and gifts with much anticipation. After they finally stumble to bed my husband and I move to the kitchen, where we both find a pleasant respite from the weariness of the day.
I was dying to try the Blue Eyed Baker's Rustic Blackberry Pie and when blackberries finally went on sale right before Thanksgiving I grabbed all that I could carry. Already we have used half of what I froze though because it turns out that this pie is just that good. Maybe it's these last-trimester pregnancy cravings or maybe it's just the lovely holiday aroma which fills the house when this pie is cooking..it could be that it just appeals to my need for simplicity and rich flavors right now.. anway, this pie finds a special spot in my belly every time I make it.
Thanksgiving came and then left us as quickly as it arrived. The children enjoyed making (and eating!) Pumpkin Granola and I was sorry to see how quickly they devoured our double batch. We make granola quite often so large batches are not out of the ordinary, but the speed at which this disapeared was quite unusual. We especially enjoyed this exquisite Four and Twenty Apple Rose Pie and canned multiple batches of homemade Cranberry Sauce. The children clustered around the stove, taking their turns stirring the bright red mixture and laughing in delight as the brittle berries popped open before settling into juicy goodness.
Friends joined us for a night of giving thanks, and as we clasped hands around our simple meal a special type of warmth filled my heart. I gave thanks for the people who surrounded me, for the love that fills our home, for the bounty upon our table and for friends who show us kindness in new ways every day.
It is the last day of November now and the countdown to Christmas begins. I have ordered a new lens for my camera and am joining some other bloggers to capture daily shots for the month of December. I can't wait to share what I snap with you all.
Happy Holidays!
